    Market Positioning:
    ASF has established a technical center for developing eco-friendly coatings technologies for the automotive industry in Korea. BASF and the Gyeonggi Provincial Government of the Republic of Korea (GGPG) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to confirm their collaboration in constructing this center.
    BASF will set up a coatings technical center at the Gyeonggi Techno Park in Ansan City, Gyeonggi Province, with the support of GGPG. In this technical center, BASF plans to conduct research and development of eco-friendly waterborne coatings for use by automotive OEMs as well as the technology for an integrated coating process, which yields more cost-efficient results.
    BASF has a global presence in coatings, with significant positions on all continents and with affiliates in Australia, China, India, Japan and the Philippines.

    BASF sees three dimensions in innovation:

    * Market innovation such as its system supplier concepts, consultancy program and e-commerce in the automotive refinish and industrial coatings sectors
    Its concept of system partnership includes materials management, stock management, internal and external logistics, incoming goods inspection, color management, material and process monitoring, laboratory work etc. Billing is mainly on a 'cost per unit basis, which places the emphasis on the efficiency of coating materials.

    BASF Coating's global strategy centers on profitable growth through innovation based on global concepts and a transnational approach, with major emphasis on capital spending and an open mind on acquisitions to complement its portfolio.
    BASF Coatings intends to further increase sales and income from operations. It is expanding its presence in Eastern Europe and China, restructuring industrial coatings and continuing measures to increase efficiency in all regions and business units.
